A New Journey... and a need for prayer

I have been putting this post off for over a week.
I just haven't been able to put it into words.
Now that we have a little bit of a plan,
I know we need prayer.
So, I'll just try to tell the story and see how it goes.

Miss Georgia had her post op appointment with the Cardiologist last week.
Her heart looks good for now,
and we are so thankful for that.
The thing is she is still having some concerning symptoms...
...mainly that she breaks out into drenching sweats a couple of times a day for no reason,
and has really bad night sweating in her sleep.
We kept thinking this was possibly a cardiac issue,
but after this last surgery it is very clear that it just isn't.
The Cardiologist thinks she has a condition called
Pheochromocytoma.
That is a very rare tumor in the adrenal gland.
We go in this next Thursday to begin testing and working with a team consiting of:
Cardiology, Nephrology, Endocrinology, Oncology and a special anesthesia team.
There are scary possibilities on the table...
but that is all they are.
I am working hard to keep my eyes on the Lord and to remember that right now we are just checking.
So....
What I want to share more than the fear is something God has done.
The day of the Cardiology appointment was crazy.
I had all three kids with me.
It involved two destroyed pairs of pants...
...snacks all over the floor and car...
...a lost stuffed hamster and...
poop...
in the middle of the hospital....
with no change of clothes.
So, I hadn't had much time to process what the Cardiologist had said.
About the Pheochromocytoma.
I found myself begging God for something to hold onto.
The next morning I dropped the kids off at school and didn't need to be there myself quite yet.
We live about 5 minutes from the school, just enough time for one song.
I turned on the radio and 'Voice of Truth' by Casting Crowns came on.
This song is HUGE for me.
A friend sent it to me the night before Georgia's open heart surgery and I clung to it during that time.
Some of the lyrics go like this:
Oh what I would do to have
The kind of strength it takes to stand before a giant
With just a Sling and a stone
Surrounded by the sound of a thousand warriors
Shaking in their armor
Wishing they'd have had the strength to stand

But the giant's calling out my name and he laughs at me
Reminding me of all the times I've tried before and failed
The giant keeps on telling me
Time and time again "boy, you'll never win!
"You'll never win"
But the voice of truth tells me a different story
And the voice of truth says "Do not be afraid!"
And the voice of truth says "This is for My glory"
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth
And it reminded me of what I wrote that night.
God is bigger.
We may be facing a giant but that does not change who God is one bit.
Then...
On my way back to school another song came on the radio,
It is called 'All Of Me' by Matt Hammitt who has a child with a heart condition.
He wrote this song for his child.
Some of the lyrics go like this:
You're gonna have all of me
You're gonna have all of me
'Cause you're worth every falling tear
You're worth facing any fear
You're gonna know all my love
Even if it's not enough
Enough to mend our broken hearts
But giving you all of me is where I'll start

I won't let sadness steal you from my arms
I won't let pain keep you from my heart
I'll trade the fear of all that I could lose
For every moment I share with you
The Lord gave me just what I needed to cling to.
Two truths:
God is big enough for this giant, I need to keep my eyes on Him.
My job is to pour my love into my little girl and she is worth EVERY SINGLE THING we walk through with her.
Stepping forward with our eyes on Him.
Thanks for praying for our little girlie once again...

Oh Shannon...I can so feel your heartache and grasping right now. We are going through some similar things right now. Scary, hard things. About to have Raimey's 3rd surgery in her first year home...meaning 2 weeks away from my family, out-of-state with my angel. I wouldn't change a thing, but fear envelops me sometimes. I love these two songs you've referenced...and the song, "Courageous" by Casting Crowns. I hate to make this post incredibly long....but here are the lyrics. Another song you can recharge with:

we were made to be courageous
we were made to lead the way
we could be the generation that finally breaks the chains

we were made to be courageous
we were made to be courageous

we were warriors on the front lines,
standing unafraid.
but now we're watchers on the side lines,
while our families slip away.
where are you men of courage?
you were made for so much more.
let the pounding of our hearts cry,
we will serve the Lord.

we were made to be courageous,
and were taking back the fight.
we were made to be courageous,
and it starts with us tonight.
the only way we'll ever stand,
is on our knees with lifted hands.
make us courageous,
Lord make us courageous.

this is our resolution, our answer to the call,
we will love our wives and children,
and refuse to let them fall.
we will reignite the passion,
that we buried deep inside.
may the watchers become warriors,
let the men of God arise.

We are, no doubt, warriors fighting for our daughter's cause. Keep fighting, sister! And know that you are not alone...and that Miss Georgia is worth it. God will never give you more than you can handle. He just thinks very highly of your capabilities. :)

I am lifting you and your family up in prayer, Shannon. We are going through some similar territory right now and I know how hard the fight is against fear.

Here's yet another song of comfort:

Courageous, by Casting Crowns
Listen to it and gather strength to fight!

we were made to be courageous
we were made to lead the way
we could be the generation that finally breaks the chains

we were made to be courageous
we were made to be courageous

we were warriors on the front lines,
standing unafraid.

Hugs to you dear sister in Christ.

We are praying for Georgia and for you and Doug. Praying for your strength, peace and comfort that can only come from our Savior. God chose the perfect people to give this little girl to. He knows what he's doing!
