Whew...that was one heck of a long day!

I am choosing today to be thankful that it is not yesterday :) It was a doozy of a day. 2 girls and 4 medical appointments has taught me to next time bring one kid at a time even if it means more driving!

Miss Georgia went first. The results were pretty much what I expected, poor baby has scar tissue covering her pulmonary valve. She will have surgery on Good Friday to 'more aggressively' open up her pulmonary valve. Then we wait and see how she does. Hopefully this will buy us more time before we need to have the valve replaced!

Miss Ravenna actually has a condition in her mouth that causes her to be 4 times as likely to get cavities than the typical child! Add ontop of that that her blood disorder makes even a normal cavitiy have to be fixed under general anesthesia...we have a twice a day 7 step process we are now doing to protect her teeth!

Then it was time for her blood draw...honestly, it was the roughest one yet. They had me hold her on my lap facing away. She bucked so hard and for so long that it messed up my back! At one point she even cracked her head on the wall :( Then poor thing raged and kicked and screamed for 45 minutes afterwards. I am praying hard and trying to find some way to help her. She is not a candidate for anti-anxiety meds so I am looking into some type of therapy. I just hate that she has to go through this and am praying for an answer...

In between we celebrated all we could....ran up and down hallways spinning like fairies, ate yummy treats, got surprises, sparkly nail polish and ended the day with smiles and ice cream!

Anyhow...I am one tired and sore Mama but oh so beyond thankful for my very brave kiddos!

I read this recently and love it....

I don't know if this is even an option for you guys but have you thought of giving her the herb hops? We give one of our children hops before bed a lot. She has a hard time calming herself for the night. My husband and I have also taken it before big anxiety inducing meetings or social gatherings (or doctor apts) and I take it before bed some nights as well. Many of our family members take it to reduce stress and anxiety. We purchase from penn herb dot com but I think you can pick it up (in pill form) in any health food store. I do pray you find a solution!

Sweet girls. Ok, so Katie Mei has had blood drawn and she hates it- when she gets chemo, they gave us a numbing cream to put on her port so that she can't even feel it. So I had a light bulb moment last Friday and put the numbing cream on her arm about 20 min before the blood draw- BIG difference. She actually said "that didn't hurt mom" with a SMILE. Never thought that would EVER happen. Don't know if that would help??? Praying friend.

So glad that your huge day of appts. is over! And praying for a solution for your little fighter as unfortunately she looks to need a lot of blood draws. UG! (I have a feeling we'd be in a similar boat with our oldest as the last time he had his finger pricked (for Kdg. 4 years ago) I had to do a full arm hugging restraint and he was kicking like a mad animal at the nurse. It was insane and I am so sorry you have to deal with this often!)
I'm hopeful that your back is already feeling better and that you can just enjoy a day relaxing. It's good that you got them all done ... but talk about a marathon day! You are brave!
Hugs,
Valerie

I have followed your blog for a while and I just had to comment; our son used to freak out at blood draws also, we had a doctor use numbing cream on his arm before and he did not even look up from his book and was surprised when we were done- it was truly such an easy solution I was surprised no one had suggested it before! You sound like such a great mom, I am sure when your lovely girls are through all of this the part they will remember most is how fun mom made the experience.

Praying for those sweet girls.
And, I do one at a time too. It is just easier on the kids.

Shannon, so sorry I have not checked in in AGES. I stopped blogging an then checking in. NUMBING CREAM! our just turned 4 year old had a blood draw today without numbing cream but I would have asked if she was fearful. She does FINE with them now. She's been through so many surgeries now that it really is no biggie but you can ask for it...it numbs and she won't feel a THING!! I am frustrated that they didn't offer that. I would ask for it or ask your Dr. for a prescription to use..you have to give it like 20 or 30 minutes to work well....they put some on the inside elbow part on both arms and covered it with saran wrap. Boom. That is what helped her over the edge...it was the fear leading up to the poke that was upsetting for her, she's fine once it's in. Big hugs. Holly, formerly of Purpose Driven Family
