Oh the goodness...

I am sitting in a little restaurant near our campsite from last night while the roosters crow! We slept under a sky full of more stars than any of us could imagine and woke to the glorious sun (and roosters). The kids are out digging in the dirt with sticks pretending they are pirates...alligators...and the latest, construction machines building castles for the ants and potato bugs they found. Georgia keeps wandering around saying "Outside!" and I don't think she has stopped smiling since we left. Our pace is slow, soaking in the trip and being together and it feels like it is filled with the goodness of God.There is time to enjoy cooking, hot chocolate, the kids stories and laughter...more like life should be.
We spent a good deal of yesterday at EL Rancho Sordo Mudo, a ministry for deaf and mute children in Baja. It was a place filled with smiles and joy. The children there were all about playing with our kids and carrying Georgia around. I was struck by how simple joy and serving can be. The kids had tickle fights, played hopscotch and splashed in puddles with teh students...all with non language in common. Doug got to know Luke the director as he personally took him to his friend to fix our (yes) flat tire.
So we had great adventures getting to Rancho Sordo Mudo as the road is being re-done which means that we were on a hand made dirt road with cows and LOTS of bumps. One of those bumps took out our tire and we had to pull over. I am so humbled by the people of Baja. We were literally in the middle of nowhere and we had three different cars not only pull over to see if we were ok but get out and chat and tell us directions to Rancho Sordo Mudo...and then stay to chat some more. One family with a van filled with kids stayed until they made sure our tire was on and were ready to lead us to the llantera (tire fixer) themselves!
God has been so faithful in providing all kinds of ways to serve, digging an RV out when it was stuck, sharing a campfire with a fellow traveler, sharing our computer with a couple biking from the Yukon to Patagonia...but more than anything we have become so aware of the ways that we have been served even more....
Well, I will write more later but it is time to hop in the car in search of our first campsite with a beach!!!!!!!!!!!
Blessings on you all!

Is it really bad to say I'm envious?

The Prez wanted me to ask if Doug works for the Feds (as in US govt)? LOL! He wondered how he could be off for 4 weeks otherwise?!

Some background: The Prez used to work for the fed. govt. and used to be able to take use it or lose it and be off for weeks! Now he is self-employed so there is no way we could do it. 2 weeks in China was a stretch.

OK, well I'm imagining your trip! So happy for you! And I'm guessing you were feeling heart strings tugged at the home for the children. How precious you got to go there and spend some sweet time with them and with the Lord! Thanks for letting us all tag along in cyber-land. Hope you're taking lots of photos you can maybe share at some point.
