Ok..so we had a scare today. One of those "it could never happen to us" things.....please, please read this so that it won't happen to your kids.
Georgia has become fascinated with clothes and wants to be picked up to peruse her closet each morning to decide what to wear (heaven help us in the teen years!). Today she picked out this sweet sweater that was mine when I was a child. It is bright pink and has drawstrings with adorable big pompoms on them. She was so proud toddling around the playground in her beautiful sweater!
Today she finally got up the nerve to go down the slide, on my lap, but down the slide. She was having so much fun sliding and then cheering and clapping for herself at the bottom of her big plunge. Well, one of those times, we were halfway down and she began to scream...and for some reason we stopped sliding. I looked up and one of those pompoms was lodged in a crack at the top of the slide. I tried and tried to push up with my feet but my shoes just slid out from under me. I looked at Georgia and her face was starting to turn blue and I screamed for help. Another mom ran over and hoisted Georgia up while a kid un-wedged the pompom. I just held Georgia and cried.
She is ok...she has a pretty good cut on her neck but one fighter spirit in her. Ten minutes after the "incident" she wanted to go down again...although she held tight onto her sweater (which I had turned wrong side out at that point).
So...I guess I am writing this to say...cut those drawstrings off! It is not worth it...get rid of them!
I think a glass of wine is in order tonight....

Agggggghhhhh! I feel sorry for Georgia, but more sorry for you - you'll remember it a lot longer than she will! Glad it ended so well.

had someone near to help you!
OH my goodness! How scary!
Isn't it nuts how the most innocent things end up being in those fluke accidents?
I'm so glad you were able to get her unstuck - and so glad she is okay!
God Bless
That's just awful! So glad you had help there to step in. How truly SCARY! But glad she is okay now. Yep...a lesson learned the hard way, but it could've been worse. Thank you Father for your angels that you've made charge over us and our precious children! <><
Hugs,
Tanya
Oh Shannon, how scary! I am so glad that she is okay! Thanks for the reminder!
So Sorry for that awful scare...I completely felt your scare b/c when my second daughter was about 3 and a half..I was sitting in our Cherokee jeep waiting for my husband..I had my newborn son in my lap..and Antoinette was looking out the window...all of a SUDDEN..the window started to go up and it literally was crushing her neck...DO NOT ask me how I did it..but I flung the door open(still not sure how my newborn did not get hurt) stood up and found the proper button to release the window. I was so nervous I could not think which button I needed to push to stop it..Anyway, when it was all said and done she had a purple line across her neck..
The fear...oh my the fear!!
I totally understand how you felt...SO glad Georgia is OK...
How scary for you both!! Thank God there was another Mom at the park to help you.

I'll be checking Megan's sweaters and jackets tonight, for sure!
Can you tell us what kind of drawstrings you mean? Like a string around the hook of a jacket...around the neck? Thank goodness she is OK and thank you for sharing!
Very scary!!!! So glad she is ok!!!!
oh my goodness! Glad she is okay, but how scary. If you think about it so many things from our own childhoods were pretty unsafe:( Yep, definitely on that glass of wine...maybe 2;)
Holey bonkers girl...the things us mommies have to go through!

So sorry for you. Glad Georgia - and YOU - are okay. Same goes for tied shoes by the way... maybe not the neck, but they catch too.
Amazing our kids survive, isn't it?
HUGS
One of those, in the blink of an eye, moments. Thanks for posting.
We had this happen in our community not too long ago. Unfortunately, the little girl (5) died. Good advice.
I shall cut off the pompons and anything that dangles on my kids clothes from now on!! Thank you for the warning and I shall pray for Georgia that she soon forgets that she was "stuck"! Oh bless her heart!!!
So glad that you were there, and able to help your daughter. Thanks for sharing the info with us, as a reminder.
Praise God for Georgia's safety!
I remember reading a fw years ago about a recall on jackets with drawstrings and I immediately checked every piece we owned. Thank you for the message and reminder. Who knows how He might have used you and your posting about this awful experience to save another child.
BLessings,
Kelly
