OH my goodness,
I am exhausted but want to write to thank each of you that prayed for us today!
Today was beyond miraculous.
Parker went through about an hour of tests,
and right before they normally do dialating drops the tech said that the doctor wanted to look at Parker's eyes first.
The doctor looked a Parker's eyes for about a minute, turned to us and said, "Yep, I'm sure I've got a diagnosis."
We both just stared at him for a minute...stunned.
Then he said, "He has Albinism and it is not progressive."
Then he left the room so the tech could get the dialating started...
Doug and I stared at each other in disbelief,
then held each other and wept for joy.
I think I am still stunned.
Our little guy has a mild form of Albinism.
The vision loss he has is permanent but it should not progress any farther!
He will have some genetic testing soon to figure out what kind of albinism he has and we will start meeting with a dermatologist periodically....
we will have to be very good about sunscreen, dark glasses and hats...
but the retinal specialist?
Wants to see him back in two years!
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen

I am so glad to hear this news. I will be continuing to pray for Parker as the Holy Spirit leads.

That is totally awesome!! Did they tell you what his vision limitation was? I have 2 with Albinism - both are legally blind - and a niece that has 20/70 vision due to mild albinism but that doesnt stop them at all! They ride bikes and play like wild hooligans. Sunscreen and wide brim hats go everywhere. The only thing they hate is that I will not let them swim in an outdoor pool and I will not let them play sports involving balls or hockey pucks! My niece is a gifted gymnastist but she does have to be extremely careful on the balance beam because of depth perception issues.
Depending on your son's vision - you should start asking about services now. Contact your state's department of the blind and your school district to determine the degree of services Parker will need.

Amazing!! I am so happy for you all and of course your little guy! For some, this diagnosis would be devastating, but it is beautiful to see how your family is able to see the blessings! Of course, I thought you might like to "meet" some bloggy moms who have kids with albinism, and of course, the only one I a, familiar with is shirleymccoy.com who has a daughter from China! I really don't get around the blogosphere very much! :) blessings to all of you, and prayers for the kids' health!

wow!!!!!!! that is wonderful news! Is it ocular albinism maybe? we are awaiting TA for our almost 7 yr old princess with albinism/nystagmus!!! Praising God with you :)
