    For most of the summer I was not on the computer too much. For the last week, since I had surgery, I have had time to poke around a bit more and...WOW! God is doing some AMAZING stuff!!!!!

It is a Christian adoption site that started up recently.

It has a Forum like China Adopt Talk (which is wonderful). This forum allows people to talk about their faith and adoption together! It is open to ALL adoptions, Domestic, International, Open, Closed etc.

Remember the family that was hand rolling paper beads to sell necklaces to bring their son Solomon home???

School is back in swing....even Miss Georgia started a little bit of preschool this week. I get to be the Bible teacher at her preschool and it is a huge answer to prayer!

I have been thinking about some things...

This world is not a perfect place...

There WILL be trials...

Things WILL be hard...more than hard sometimes...almost crushing really...

We will weep...

Sometimes we will be hurt by those we love...

There will be pain...

and we have days where it is hard to even lift our heads...

and it is ok to be in that spot...

we do not have to be perfect, to have the answers or to act like we do...

Because having it all together is not what it is all about...

actually, it is not even what the Lord wants when we are walking through painful stuff...

"For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings."

Hosea 6:6

What He wants is for us to come to Him...

To pour out our hearts to Him...

To find our rest in Him...

To open up those weak and frail and broken and crushed feelings spots in our souls...

and find...

That He will not drop us...

That His compassion is endless...

And He knows our very hearts...

and desires for us to know his...

That what He has to offer is far better than what we are grieving,

He offers Himself

"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Mark 10:45

and promises that this world is not the end...

That there IS a place with no more sorrow...

and no more tears...

Where our trials will be over...

Where we see Him face to face...

Forever and ever...

Joy unspeakable...

"He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever."
Revelation 21:4

And He promises to carry us all the way until we get there...

and when we stand with wrinkled and tear worn faces at the end of the storm...

and even as the wind and waves batter us still...

There can be peace, and joy, in the midst of it...

But not because we pulled ourselves up by our bootstraps...

Or because we acted like things weren't hurting ...

Or the things causing the anxiety had gone away...

But because we got to know God's deep compassion and unfailing love...

When He says:

 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:6-7

He is not saying not to worry or act like you are not anxious...not at all!

Because the verse does not stop there.

It says IN EVERYTHING brings our requests to Him through prayer and thanksgiving.

We are not to conger up false peace on our own or to pretend that all is fine in the midst of our trials...

We are to bring our hurting, worried, scared, fainting hearts to Him....

And it is through experiencing how He holds, and listens and cares for our deepest fears and wounds that we find the truth of that beautiful promise...

The peace comes not out of faking it but out of facing our deepest fears, pains and anxieties

 and allowing God to come alongside them.

The peace or the change does not come from our circumstance,

 but from seeing and knowing Christ more clearly.

It is sometimes in our vulnerability that enough of ourselves is stripped away and we can see the truth more clearly.

"Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy."

Psalm 126:5

She is a little girl with a will and a fire for life that is contagious. She is currently in middle middle of a battle with Leukemia. Her biggest wish is that her family adopt a baby brother or sister. Her family is walking with her through her illness and at the same time working to make her wish come true. Tell us a little about yourselves...


You could say it was love at first site! We met on Whidbey Island, Washington, where Craig was born and raised and were married about a year later on September 5, 2004. We had planned to head to Chicago shortly after our wedding for Craig to finish up school and start seminary. God quickly revealed to us that those were not His plans, as He so often does, through the birth of our son, Noah James on August 30, 2005. Yup, 12 months later…it was quick! We made northern California home and were so thankful to be close to Jen’s family and church, where Craig was quickly embraced. Maela Janice was born on January 5, 2009 and Noah finally has his long-awaited playmate. Our kids are so precious to us and bring an abundance of laughter and joy to our home.

AND… we are thrilled to announce that we are also expecting! God has intervened once again through His infinite wisdom and orchestrated this for His purpose. Our new little one is scheduled to arrive on December 28!



How did you come to the decision to adopt ?


God planted a burden for the fatherless in each of our hearts before we had even met, so it was a given that someday adoption would be a part of our story. However, we had not anticipated that chapter to be written quite so soon, or be quite so long! Our journey to bring home our child started in Vietnam in 2007, where our paperwork still sits on the Consulates desk, as one of the next cases to be assigned a referral, we are told. Due to the corrupt system and child trafficking taking place, the US Embassy has ceased processing adoptions in Vietnam. It is a very sad and desperate situation, endangering and trapping thousands of children, orphans and not. We waited for nearly 3 years, hoping and praying for change, but it has not yet come and a part of our hearts remains in Vietnam with a child, our “Shadow Baby” (the name Noah gave his little brother or sister when he was only 1). We still hope that some day by the grace of God we may still meet that little one from Vietnam.

In January of 2010, our hearts were stirred in a new direction and we began the dreaded paperwork process all over again…yes you heard right, started from scratch. We are pursuing two children in Ugandan, Africa! It is incredibly exciting and things moving along smoothly so far. We don’t have a definite timeline, but we could be traveling anytime between July and December. Our family will spend 4-6 weeks in Uganda, getting to know our newest additions, attending court dates, soaking in the beautiful country and culture of our children, and hopefully serving alongside our friends, Matt and Crystal Kehn, in whatever way we can while we are there.

The adoption process is somewhat different in Uganda than some countries. We have the opportunity to be intimately involved in determining the children we adopt. In addition to our friends who serve in Uganda as foster parents, we have had the opportunity to speak on the phone with the directors of 2 baby homes and have contact with the lawyer who will be handling our case in the Ugandan courts. This is an intimidating and incredible opportunity and has brought us to our knees in prayer more than once. (We covet your prayers too that we have discernment according to God’s will, not our own.) We will be granted Legal Guardianship in Uganda over our children. This is in lieu of the three year residency requirement to adopt in Uganda. We will then officially adopt our kids once we are back in the United States.

We just finished our homestudy and the dossier is pretty much complete! YEAH!!!! Just waiting to hear if the precious little boy we would like to adopt is approved for us! And then we get to move on!

Could you tell us a little more about the orphan crisis in Uganda?


Uganda is a developing country about the size of Oregon that was subject to Civil War and the AIDS epidemic for many decades. Since the late 70’s a new president has taken power and the country is on the road to recovery, however the long period of violence and death has left over 2.5 million orphans without homes or family. There is a residency clause currently in place in Uganda that requires a parent wishing to adopt in Uganda live there for a minimum of 3 years, but a loophole has been found! Currently there is one judge who will grant legal guardianship to parents in Uganda, which with the proper working, will then receive a Visa to bring the child/children home to official adopt them in the United States. Currently there are some discrepancies on wording and intent through these court proceedings, which is causing some delays and uncertainties . . . a major call to prayer for those of seeking to adopt from Uganda.

What has the Lord been teaching you during this time?

My verse of meditation these last few days since we found out travel by July does not look likely outside of a strong act from the hand of God: "You will keep in PERFECT PEACE him who whose mind is STEADFAST because he TRUSTS in You." Isa 26:3. I had a lady from our church call me the other day to say she had been thinking about me and praying for us all week and wanted to thank us for being a young couple who has "remained STEADFAST" yup she used that word...I just broke down in tears (again) and share with her about our current situation - she committed to praying still. WOW! It is such an awesome place to be, in His perfect peace, when the circumstances are just not what you really want. To see and experience His faithfulness to His promises and find security and rest in that eventhough things do not look or feel the way you want them too. To desire to push, control, and pull things to try and make them work out "my way", the "best way" and still find a calm place of solace where there is assurance and peace that all things will be His way, the Better way....wow, it's just amazing! Such a supernatural growing experience
 
 

 
What are ways that we can be praying for you guys?


· The circumstances in Uganda, the courts and judges who grant legal guardianship to adopting parents, the Vice Consulate and US Embassy who issue the Visas for children to travel home

· Due to Jen’s pregnancy and our work situations, we are asking the Lord to send us to Uganda in July, but we must be home by early October. Our entire family will travel to Uganda for 4-8 weeks.

· Physical, emotional, and spiritual health for our child, for us as we prepare, and all of us as we travel.

· Our fundraising efforts – we KNOW the God of the fatherless will ransom home His chosen ones. We are still in need of around $16,000.



What do you look forward to most about getting your little one home?


It has been a long three years, waiting to bring our child home! We are so ready to be under one roof, heart and body all together. We have loved this child for a long time, without knowing his race or gender and our arms ache to hold and love him. Noah has been eagerly waiting for his little brother to come and share his room, toys and clothes. We are READY!!!

They purchase fair trade coffee beans from growers around the world, including Uganda, and roast every bag to order. They host personal stores online for adopting families to fundraise. Each bag of coffee purchased supplies fair prices to the farmers, a contribution to sponsor older children in African attending school, and a $5 contribution to the family’s adoption efforts. Crazy Love! Adoption Fundraisers!

    Awhile back Linny at A Place Called Simplicity started something called Crazy Love. It is, in a nutshell the idea of saying 'Yes!' to when you see a need, right away. The idea being, in Linny's words

Crazy Love led to bringing this little one home!

So I started asking God about how He can use me, a stay at home Mama with a tight budget to help Him. This new and improved blog is part of His answer! I am giving where I can of my money but God also reminded me that I can use my prayers, my writing and my passion to help others as they walk along the adoption road! SO encouraged!!!!

   I honestly think that I am going to have a hard time finding words for how amazing this whole "Wild Idea" thing has become....I have spent a good part of the last few days "meeting" new people through their blogs. Can I just say that it is beyond encouraging to read about you guys?

    As I have read just the little glimpses of these different journeys, it is like seeing the very radiant face of Christ. The verse that keeps ringing in my head is:

"I will not leave you orphans, I will come to you."

John 14:18

      It is so absolutely evident that God's heart is for the orphan and I truly believe that His plan is that there would be no orphans...but there is even more. As I read these adoption stories, every single one of them has bumps and detours and very real worries. And in every single one of them, God has met them. He cares for the orphan and He cares for each and every one of us. In every burden that we carry, adoption related or not, God does not want us to be alone or "orphaned"...He longs to walk with us.

      When I was a backpacking guide (like a million years ago) for Young Life, we would spend our first night in lean-to's nestled into the woods near base camp. So campers would show up at camp in the afternoon, spend the day learning about high-altitude backpacking and then we would do an evening 'club'. At the end of 'club' as guides we would grab a propane lantern and lead the kids through the dark woods to the lean-to. On that hike through the woods, all that you could see was what the lantern would illuminate.    

     You can imagine a group of 15 or so excited high school kids giggling and squirming and tripping and being just a little more than nervous as we headed off into the woods. Each time we did this, I was struck by the fact that God promises that His word is the "lamp unto my feet and a light for my path" Psalm 119:105. We could see just where to put our foot next, but no farther and some had to trust the ones in front who were leading. It always made my stomach do little flip-flops even though I knew where we were going....the excitement of others and what God would do that week never got old.

    It feels the same way with this...I just know that God is going to answer all of the needs and prayers on this list. He is the one guiding all of these journeys to His precious children....and if we choose, all of us get to be a part of the journey!!!!!

    Reading these stories of all of these families rerminds me that He is also the light and guide in the 'dark' places in my life. If you have a chance, click on some of the links on the right and take a read, you just cannot help but see the face of God!

Wild idea!

Hey all of you out there in adoption land!!!!!!! I am loving finding new ways to help with adoptions. I have looked around the internet and cannot find a current place that lists adoption fundraisers. I would love to start making a spot that lists the blogs of people who are making things to help with their adoptions. I know that so many of us are in a spot where we are just home with our newest kiddos, waitng to go get kiddos or just so excited about being part of God's hand in bringing kids home!
   So...here's my idea...if you are fundraising for your adoption or know of someone who is email me at shannon_miller72@yahoo.com. I will try to keep a current list on my sidebar and then those of us who want to can get the word out to friends & family about these ways to fund adoptions!!!!
    I'm so excited to see how the Lord could use this! So much of my heart is in wanting to continue to do as much as possible for both orphans and widows. I know that alone I am only one person but together we could do big things!!!!!!
