Please pray...

Because Georgia's medical file was fairly old (7 months) when we got our referral, we were able to ask the orphanage for an update. Mainly we wanted to know about how she is handling her heart condition at this point. We did get a little update just now and wanted to ask everyone to be praying for her. This update means that she is having "tet spells" and that we will most likely be having open heart surgery very soon after we get home.
Here's the update (meaning an in-China liason for our adoption agencey was able to call the orphanage):

"The orphanages said the girl has serious heart disease, but she looks no big different with normal children if she is not cry, but when she cries or eating too fast, her face will turn to blue. Her breath is also a little bit faster than normal kids. She is an active girl with open personality, likes listening music."

I am so thankful for this information and to know how to pray more specifically but honestly, it is so incredibly hard to be over here, so very far away. We do not know what our timeframe is until we can go get her and it breaks my heart to know that she is struggling physically.
So, I want to ask you guys to pray, to send this blog out to anyone you know who is willing to pray. I am asking that you pray specifically for these things:
* For Georgia's heart and body, that her heart will continue to pump strongly and that her body will get the oxygen that it needs.
* That God will protect her body and brain from any damage from lack of oxygen.
* That we will speed through the next three steps and be able to travel soon.
* For deep bonding and attachment when we do get her, that the time at the hospital will not harm her attachment to us.
* For Ravenna and Parker as they walk this journey with their new little sister.
* For peace and trust for us as we wait. I have the hardest time sleeping as it is daytime in China and I know that Georgia is up and I wish with all my heart that not another day would go by without her knowing the love of a family.
Thank you all so much, I wish that I could post a picture so that you could see the sweet face you are praying for.
Love you all,
Shannon

Prayers flying to China from West Seattle! I imagine that Georgia must be sleeping as I send my prayers so I will imagine that she is dreaming them and that in her dream she is smiling the smile of a child who knows how loved she is, that her Mama is asking the world to pray for her.....

I just saw your post on Kay Bratt's blog. I'm a Mifan Mommy who adopted a little girl last March who needed heart surgery. What you've described sounds like our Josie. 3 weeks after we came home from China, we were across the state at our University hospital undergoing open-heart surgery for Tetralogy of Fallot. If you were to see our daughter now (http://kenward.blogspot.com) you'd never know she was once so sick. Feel free to contact me with questions or concerns. I love talking about our adoption of a heart child. I'd do it all over again. She's amazing.

Best wishes!!

This us the worst kind of news to get while you're half a world away. My oldest daughter was 15m at adopted and so blue that her feet were black. She had emergency OHS once we got home and today is a completely healthy 4-year-old. The thing that amazed me most at her adoption was how well she did even though she was blue. Even at 15m she knew how to handle her TET spells, she knew how to compensate and she knew when to take it easy.

I understand and I'm praying. Shannon, hold tight to your faith in God. I PROMISE you He is watching over Georgia. I cannot even share all of the ways we know of how God was holding onto our S through people there around her, and I am sure we don't know the half of it.

And these heart babies are so incredibly strong. I can't explain it, but their inner strength amazes me. It can only come from God.

Email me anytime if you need someone to talk, want me to listen, anything. Take care and press into our Father.

Your story is ALWAYS a beacon for me and I believe in God's goodness not only for Georgia and her health but for each of you (and us) who are woven into her life. I love you and will call you this week on one of my drives to Kent :).

Dear Shannon and Doug,
I'm the mom of a Yulin daughter, now living in Shanghai. You might contact Heart to Heart in Shanghai and see whether they can bring her to Shanghai for surgery, or whether they can arrange to have her evaluated in Yulin to see whether she needs immediate intervention. You can find Heart to Heart at: http://heart2heartshanghai.net/h2h/information.cfm
We'll be praying for you! All the best on this journey. Sarah
